Requirements for Marriage License in Florida

  • Age Requirements:
    Both parties must be at least 18 years old.
    Individuals aged 17 may marry with parental consent and if the other party to the marriage is no more than two years older.
  • Identification:
    Both parties must present a valid government-issued photo ID (e.g., driver’s license, state ID, passport).
  • Social Security Number:
    Provide a Social Security number if applicable. Non-U.S. citizens who do not have a Social Security number must provide an Alien Registration Number, I-94 card, or another form of ID.
  • Previous Marriages:
    If previously married, provide the date of the dissolution of the most recent marriage. If the marriage ended in divorce, the final judgment date is required; if by death, the death certificate may be necessary.
  • Premarital Preparation Course:
    Completing a premarital preparation course is optional but provides benefits. Couples who complete the course from a registered provider receive a discount on the marriage license fee and can waive the three-day waiting period for Florida residents
  • Waiting Period:
    There is a mandatory three-day waiting period for Florida residents who do not complete a premarital preparation course.
    Non-Florida residents do not have a waiting period.
  • Fees:
    The marriage license fee is approximately $93.50.
    If a premarital preparation course is completed, the fee is reduced to $61.
  • Application Process:
    Both parties must apply together in person at any county clerk’s office in Florida.
    Each party must provide a sworn statement that all information is true and correct.
  • License Validity:
    A marriage license is valid for 60 days from the date of issuance.
    The marriage must be performed within this period.
  • Non-Residents:
    Non-Florida residents can obtain a marriage license without a waiting period.
